Gardener with marrow
Courtesy of Dundee University Archive Services
The date of this photograph is unknown. It shows a gardener outside the original Baldovan Institution holding what looks like a giant marrow.
Gardening and agriculture/farming was (and still is) a large part of life in the former Parish. The staff encouraged and trained residents from the Institution’s opening in 1855, throughout the hospitals history, to work on local farms at Baldovan, Balmydown, HillHouses, whilst others developed landscape gardening skills on the hospital grounds.
